The Importance of Exercise for Your Pet

Pets that live inside houses are usually not given the amount of exercise they need to remain healthy. As humans, if we sit inside all day and are never able to go outside and exercise, we are obviously not in the best shape possible, and our pets are no different.

Benefits of Exercise

Exercise increases blood circulation and blood flow to the skin. As temperature rises, sweat develops and releases toxins from the body. This creates positive effects for the heart and body, and can help burn fat and calories.

Exercise for Young Pets

There are a number of great exercises that can help keep your pet in shape. Jogging, walking, playing on the beach, playing fetch with balls, sticks, and Frisbees are all good exercises to try. At least half an hour of daily exercise will benefit your young pet tremendously.

Exercise for Older Pets

Older pets often have more trouble getting out and running around, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need exercise. Take your older pets out on routine walks around the block to help keep them in shape.

Exercise for Cats

Cats can usually get much of the exercise they need by stretching and scratching. This allows them to keep their muscles working and in good shape, so it is important to provide your cat with a scratching post or a substitute.
