Teaching Your Dog to Eat
Eating may seem like one of the most intrinsic skills every dog or pet should have, but that is not always the case. Establishing good eating habits is extremely important for your dog’s overall health and happiness. Whether you feed your dog wet or dry, organic or non-organic food, it is important to establish healthy, regular eating habits with your dog as soon as possible.
What your dog eats is extremely important to his or her well-being. If you have any questions about getting your dog to eat, or what type of food you should feed your dog, contact an Austin Veterinarian Clinic today and schedule an appointment.
Getting Your Dog to Eat
It is important to get your dog on a regular feeding schedule as soon as you can, and there are many techniques you can use to get your dog to eat his or her food. If you are having trouble getting your pet to eat, try the following:
- Feed your dog close to the same time every day
- Don’t leave the food in front of your dog permanently. Leave it for five minutes or so to encourage your dog to eat, and then take it away, whether or not your dog is finished.
- Feed a puppy every eight hours and an adult once or twice a day
- Keep an eye on your dog’s eating habits. If he or she eats too fast, feed in several small feedings.
Establishing good and healthy eating habits is one of the most important parts of owning a dog, and it is important to establish these habits early on.
