Signs Your Dog Has Fleas
Many dog and pet owners believe fleas are simply a mild inconvenience. In reality, fleas are the primary cause of itchiness, scratching, and irritated skin in all breeds of canine. Fleas do much more than simply crawl around on your dog’s skin. After fleas choose a dog, they begin biting and feeding on the host’s blood. Not only can this cause severe itching, but it can also cause allergic reactions or cause your dog to become anemic and ill from the blood loss.
If your dog is suffering from fleas, it is important that you recognize the symptoms and signs so you can take action and get medical treatment as soon as possible. Flea Symptoms
If your dog is hypersensitive to flea saliva, he or she could have a severe reaction and become extremely itchy after only a few bites. Fleas generally affect areas around the rump, thighs, base of the tail, stomach, and upper arms. If your pet is experiencing any of the following, it is possible that he or she has fleas:
- Excessive licking and chewing
- Scratching
- Rubbing
- Red sores or abrasions that are sometimes bloody
- Hair loss in patches
- Tapeworm segments or larvae in the dog’s stool or around the anus
If you see any of the above symptoms you need to take action immediately to prevent the situation from becoming worse.
